Mindset

Use this lesson to learn how to take ownership of your mindset, get focused on long-term goals that inspire you, and demonstrate an understanding of how you view the world.

Objective

  1. Enable people to evaluate their mindset to direct their attention to their intended goals better.

  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the power of how you view things.

  3. Establish a sense of control over your ability to control your mindset.

Lesson

February 25th, 1964, was never intended to make history in the way it did. It probably would have gone down like any other day, but nobody told the 22 year old challenger. Just 24 hours earlier, the odds makers felt him foolish to trash talk “the most frightening man in the world.”

Just 24 hours before the 7th round finish, Cassius Clay confidently boasted, “I AM THE GREATEST!” And the rest, as they say, is history.

It’s easy to think, “that’s great, but I ain’t Muhammad Ali.” Which is right! But that’s a good thing, we already have a Muhammad Ali and don’t need a replica. What we can take away is the power of that statement. Imagine what you could accomplish if you had the same brazen confidence of Cassius’ self-talk.

Activity

  1. Mindset is our mental paradigm. It’s brain-craft. Or, as Oxford Languages defines it: it’s “the established set of attitudes held by someone.” Think about your mindset. What would you get done in the morning if you woke up, looked directly in the mirror, and told yourself, “I AM THE GREATEST,” and meant it? What behaviors do you think The Greatest’s exhibit?

  2. Over the next week, start crafting your mindset. This is something we can learn to control. What do you want it to be? What do you believe in? What do you think is possible? What do you think you’re capable of doing? Write it down. Read it DAILY.

  3. This is a great introduction to meditation. Some people call these affirmations, formations, or mantras. They help keep you focused on things that matter to you rather than being distracted by the things happening around you. The world is a tricky place. It will pull you out of rhythm :)

  4. These are your PERSONAL CORE VALUES. Return to this later when we talk about them in the WORK section.
